News - Hook Norton Training Brass Band Impress Audience at Christmas Concert Debut

It was a very special moment for Hook Norton Brass Band organisation when the Training Band took to the stage for the first time since their formation in September of this year. They played fantastically given the short time the group have been rehearsing together, indeed the pieces showcased on the night had only been rehearsed for six weeks.

Members of the main band joined Thomas Bolton-King, Thomas Fletcher and Thomas Dynan on cornet and Pat Vine on baritone to play two items. In the first half they played a suite in three movements; Grand Fanfare, Here We Go and Tongue Twister and in the second half Let’s Rock and Roll by Gary Young to which they received rapturous and deserved applause from both the audience and players in the main band.

Our Christmas concert was a lovely event and although taking place on the first day of December many have said that it has put them in the festive spirit. The programme was predominantly Christmas music with a few items from our regular repertoire and carols which the audience took joy in having a sing along to.

Other highlights during the evening included our trombone player Paul Roberts singing White Christmas, readings from various members of the band and solos from baritone player Nick Wilson and euphonium player Garry Keen. Of course the mulled wine and mince pies also seemed to go down well!

It is hoped that the training Band will grow and continue to go from strength to strength. If you know anyone who might be interested in coming along or would like to yourself then please do not hesitate in contacting Bob Sammons on 01295 711693 for further information. We do have instruments that we can make available to you so do get in touch.
